Why use songs and music with teenagers ?
  • Teenagers like songs and music and have strong personal preferences about what they like
  • Songs often include a lot of repetition that helps to make language memorable (listening)
  • Songs contain chunks of language that children can remember and use (vocabulary, phrases)
  • Songs often contain current usages of language that are meaningful to teenagers
  • Songs are sung at a reasonably fast speed containing natural phonologicalfeatures
  • Music can help promote a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere in the classroom
  • Music can stimulate strong feelings that can be channelled to enrich the language learning experience
  • Music opens a way to practise (grammar, vocabulary) by doing Gap Filling exercises

Project: My favourite group/song

Instructions:

1. Present the name, birthdate, country and favourite song of the artist

Billy Idol / 1955 / British / Eyes without a face

2. Talk about the artist (5 interesting facts)

Did you know that...?

Don't copy !!! Summarize and Paraphrase :)

Example:

- A series of music videos for songs such as "White Wedding", "Rebel Yell" and "Eyes Without a Face" made him one of the first MTV stars.

 - He was one of the first MTV stars

Idol was involved in a serious motorbike accident which nearly cost him a leg on 6 February 1990 at the corner of Gordon Avenue and Fountain Avenue in Hollywood.[14]He was hit by a car when he ran a stop sign while riding home from the studio one night, requiring a steel rod to be placed in his leg

- He had an accident with his motorbike. He almost lost one leg.

In 1993, Idol released Cyberpunk. Regarded as experimental, it was recorded in a home studio using a Macintosh computer, which was a new concept at the time. Idol recorded the album with guitarist Mark Younger-Smith and producer Robin Hancock. Special editions of the album were issued with a floppy disc which contained a screensaver. It was the first album which listed the e-mail address of the artist (idol@well.sf.ca.us, which is now inactive) in its booklet.

- Idol's music album was the first album which contained an email back in 1993. This email is now inactive.
